Can you imagine giving a speech in front of a million people? Would you be nervous? Excited? A six-year-old girl from Los Angeles did just that. She did spoke because she wanted to keep her family safe.
In January of 2017, Sophie Cruz spoke at the Women’s March on Washington D.C. Her parents are undocumented immigrants from Mexico. This means they do not have the legal right to live in the United States. They could be sent back to Mexico. There are millions more families in this situation.
Sophie spoke because she wants the government to help them find a way to stay in the United States. She told the crowd, “We are here together making a chain of love to protect our families. Let us fight with love, faith, and courage so that our families will not be destroyed.”
Sophie has done other things to help. When she was five years old, she went past guards to deliver a message to the Pope [the leader of the Roman Catholic Church] about her family. She will continue to fight to keep her family together. Sophie is a very brave young girl.
What Do You Think? What do you do to help people you care about?
