Día de los Muertos

Día de los Muertos began as a holiday in Mexico. It includes Indigenous traditions. Indigenous people are the first people known to live in a place. Día de los Muertos also includes Catholic traditions. People from Spain came to Mexico. They brought their Catholic religion with them.  One thing families do for Día de los Muertos is set up ofrendas. These are altars for departed family members. They have candles, flowers, food, and drinks. Some ofrendas are in family homes. Others are left in graveyards.
