Kentucky is also home to Fort Knox. This is a US Army base. The United States Bullion Depository is there. It holds about 147 million ounces of gold. This is worth hundreds of billions of dollars.
The gold is kept in a vault, or a strong locked building. This is one of the most protected places in the world. Many different things need to be done to open the vault. No one person knows them all! In the past, the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution, and the Bill of Rights have all been stored at Fort Knox.
