Overcoming Shyness

Class Presentation
Everybody feels shy at times, but it is important not to let that stop you from doing things you want to.

Does meeting a new person put your stomach in knots? Would you rather be alone than talk with a group of people?

You are not alone. Many people are uncomfortable being the center of attention. But there are times when it is necessary to speak up. When it’s your turn to talk, keep these things in mind as you gather your courage to speak.

  1. Remember that other people have the same worries you do.  They understand your shyness and want you to be successful.
  2. Remember that what you have to say matters. When you have information people need, they will want to hear what you have to say.
  3. Ask questions.  Sometime, getting other people to feel comfortable speaking is all it takes to break the ice with a new acquaintance.
  4. Practice speaking up at times that are not stressful for you.  Keep practicing!

It is ok to feel shy. But with a little experience, feeling shy won’t stop you from getting your message heard!

What Do You Think Think of one time you were feeling shy.  What would have helped you to speak up?
