Donald Trump will return to the White House in January 2025. On November 5, voters chose Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris. This will be his second term. He previously served as president from 2017 to 2021.
Trump is the oldest person ever elected president. He is 78 years old. At the end of his term, he will be 82. JD Vance will be the vice president. He currently serves as US Senator for the state of Ohio. Vance will be among the youngest vice presidents in history. He is 40 years old.
Trump is the first president in more than 130 years to be elected to two nonconsecutive terms. This means Trump’s second term did not follow his first. Most presidents who win two terms serve for eight years straight. But Trump lost his 2020 election race. He will replace President Joe Biden.
As of November 8, 73 million Americans voted for Trump. Sixty-nine million Americans voted for Harris. Millions of people voted in person and by mail. Record numbers of Americans voted early this year.
When the votes are counted in a state, a winner is determined. The winner receives that state’s electoral college votes. A state has an amount of electoral college votes based on how many people live there. A candidate needs 270 electoral college votes to become president.
Trump is projected to have won six of seven “swing” states. These are states where support for both parties is evenly divided. Many voters are happy that Donald Trump won. Many others are sad that Kamala Harris lost. But a president isn’t just a leader for some Americans. A president is a leader for all Americans. Donald Trump will take office on January 20, 2025.
What Do You Think? What can the next president do to be a leader for everyone?
