Has your family ever ordered food and had it delivered to your home? Soon you may open the door and see a robot bringing your food!
Robots on wheels are delivering food in cities like Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. They can travel down narrow streets to go places that cars and trucks can’t reach. Most delivery robots only travel about 10 mph. That’s slower than your bicycle! They use coding, cameras, and sensors to safely cross streets and even climb curbs to reach your door.
Many companies already use delivery robots and more are being developed. Most delivery robots are used in big cities, but some may roll into small towns soon! Companies are testing how robots can help drivers make deliveries faster. One idea being tested is to use robots on delivery trucks. The robots could take the packages from the truck to your door. This could help delivery drivers finish their routes faster and maintain safe social distance.
