The first Winter Olympic Games was in Chamonix, France, in 1924. It was more than 100 years ago. There was figure skating then, too! There were 250 athletes from 16 different countries. The Winter Olympics is much bigger now. In 2026, there will be 2,900 athletes from 90 countries!
The Winter Olympic Games take place in different cities each time. This year, it will be in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. These are cities in Italy.
People all around the world watch the Winter Olympic Games. Some people travel to be there. Many people also watch on television.
