Have you heard about “social distancing”? Social distancing is a way to stop the spread of COVID-19, the new coronavirus. Scientists believe that the virus spreads through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks. Droplets with the virus can land in the mouths or noses of people nearby. Social distancing means staying at least six feet away from other people. If we do that, we can keep the virus from spreading. What if you have to go to a place with a lot of people? A mask can keep you safe if you are in a place like a grocery store.
Social distancing can be hard! You want to see your friends and family. You want to go to school or see a movie. But research shows that social distancing can keep us healthy.
Social distancing doesn’t mean you are alone. If you miss your family, friends, or teachers, you might call them on the phone or visit with them online. You can also get fresh air and exercise. Walking, hiking, and riding your bike are great ways to spend your time. Just be sure to stay six feet away from people who don’t live with you in your home.
What Do You Think? How does social distancing help you and people around you? What are you doing to stay healthy?
