Claudia Sheinbaum Makes History as the First Female President of Mexico 

Claudia Sheinbaum celebrates her victory in the Mexican election.

This week, history was made in Mexico. On Sunday, June 2, the people of Mexico voted for president. They elected Claudia Sheinbaum. She won by a very large amount. She will be the first female president of Mexico.  

President-elect Sheinbaum worked as a scientist. She became an expert on the environment. She won an award called the Nobel Prize. Her first government job was for Mexico City. She gave leaders advice on improving the environment in the city. She later became the mayor of Mexico City. Now she will be president of Mexico. As a leader, she uses her scientific background. She analyzes information and makes decisions based on data.  

President-elect Sheinbaum is a member of the Morena Party. The Morena party is extremely popular in Mexico. This means President-elect Sheinbaum will get to make many big decisions. She also needs to make decisions that are fair for people who do not agree with her. 

This is just one challenge that President-elect Sheinbaum will face. Mexico also has other challenges. Sheinbaum will work to reduce violent crime. She will also try to solve Mexico City’s water shortage. The city might run out of water soon.
