
On St. Patrick’s Day, the world celebrates one of the most famous people in Irish history—St. Patrick! Many Americans eat corned beef and cabbage on this day. But did you know that corned beef and cabbage isn’t from Ireland? It’s from the United States! Let’s take a tour of food you are likely to find in Ireland.
Your morning in Ireland starts with a traditional Irish breakfast. This dish includes some things people eat for breakfast in the United States, too. The bacon, sausage, and eggs might look familiar. But in Ireland, the bacon is called rashers. And eggs are usually poached. That means they are cooked in boiling water.
Do you like pudding for breakfast? Not that kind of pudding! In Ireland, black and white puddings are served at breakfast. The pudding isn’t sweet. It is made from oatmeal, animal fat, and liver.
