Donald Trump Nominates Brett Kavanaugh for Supreme Court

The Senate must decide whether or not to confirm Brett Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court Justice.

The Senate has a very important decision to make. It is about someone who will make very important decisions. They must decide if Brett Kavanaugh will be a Supreme Court Justice.

The Supreme Court can tell a President or Congress that their actions are not allowed by the Constitution. First, its members must be selected by the President and approved by the Senate.

There are nine Supreme Court Justices. Recently, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement. President Donald Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh to replace him. Now, the Senate must vote on whether they will confirm [give approval to] Brett Kavanaugh.

The Senate will collect information about Brett Kavanaugh. This will include his experience as a judge. It will also include his philosophy [way of thinking] about the law. They will ask Brett Kavanaugh questions. They will debate whether he is the right person for the job. Finally, the Senate will vote on whether to confirm Brett Kavanaugh or not.
