March Madness

For many years, March Madness was only for men’s basketball teams. In 1972, Congress made a law called Title IX. Its goal is to give women the same opportunities in school sports that men have. Women’s sports programs began to grow in schools around the country. By 1982, the NCAA started a March Madness tournament for women’s teams. It has become very popular. In 2024, around 24 million people watched the women’s championship game. That was more viewers than the men’s game had!
